Awesome spot: La Parguera in Guanica, Puerto Rico

Friday, January 18th, 2008

This was an awesome experience. 4 am I meet with Willie, our Dive Master, and we both drove to Guanica, an awesome paradise for scuba diving South of Puerto Rico. The ride is about 2 hours from San Juan, the road is very good and clean. You cross the island through some small mountains reveling very beautiful views thoughout the whole trip.

Once we reached Guanica, all I wanted to know about was about “The Wall” and that’s where I learnt that “El Beril” and “La Parguera” all refer to the same thing. We meet with some other divers, and around 8:00 am we were set to go on the boat that was taking us right over “El Beril” as they called it.

The dive starts around 80 feet and we went up to 100 feet on the border of “El Beril” of Guanica. Visibility was around 100 feet. But La Parguera actually drops from 60 feet to sea floor, at around 2000 feet (more about Scuba Diving La Parguera in Guánica, south of Puerto Rico ).

I have to tell you, it’s impressive to by diving, and suddenly it feels te world has come to an end, the floor just vanishes as it falls 2000 feet but you only see the abyss. IT’s an incredible sensation, and you feel so small in that huge place.

“La Parguera de Guanica”, is an amazing experience I would recommend it to all divers and one of the best spots for scuba diving in Puerto Rico.

La Parguera Phosphorescent Bay

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

La Parguera Phosphorescent Bay is one of 2 unique locations in Puerto Rico where microscopic organisms that live in the water “shine” or “sparkle” when disturbed making this an incredible nightly attraction. Dark nights, with no moon are better, and light rain days, will let you see a lighted bay as sparkles touch the water ! (more…)

Scuba Diving in Guanica, Puerto Rico

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Guánica has a crystal clear year round water ideal for snorkeling and scuba Diving. There are different spots ideal for scuba diving in “La Parguera Wall en Guánica , probably the most well known, and believe me, a remarkable place to enjoy.
All these spots are ideal both day and night scuba diving . But one UNIQUE place for a nightly dive would be “La Parguera Phosphorescent Bay“, an incredible place for nighttime snorkel trip in a phosphorescent bay.

More on Guánica: Part of the Guánica has been designated world biosphere reserve. During the year you can find more than 100 species of migratory and resident birds.

Weather in Guanica: There is very little rainfall in Guánica, as it is very close to the “Dry Forest”, also a very nice place to visit if you plan to come to the area . Guánica receives only about 15 inches (38cm).

On the shore, in Guanica, Puerto Rico

Guánica is a very interesting point in many of the ones available for scuba diving in Puerto Rico. As I explore more and get a richer view of other spots and meet other divers, I will be posting them here in prScubaDiver.

Learn scuba diving at Blue Dolphin Scuba

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

For a long time, I’ve been thinking of getting my Diver Certification and wonder why I didn’t do it.

Finally I became a PADI certified scuba diver at Blue Dolphin Scuba in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Johnny Gay, our instructor and owner of Blue Dolphin Scuba was fun, great and I can highly recommend his classes. Not only getting your PADI certification at BlueDolphinScuba is great because how classes flow, and how Johnny manages to teach an entertain, but he will also take you out on the sea for a real dive during and after your final practical exams, something all other shops did nt include while I shopped aound before going with these guys.
