PR Scuba Diver

So here’s a small mention to make Willie a very happy man. But Willie Enrique Mojica has proven to be not only a great guy to dive with, but a great professional I had the oportunity to dive with.

I also had various cahnges to dive with people who have known and will tell you what a great Dive Master  he has been.

So Willie, here it goes, we all think that Willie Enrique Mojica is the Best Dive Master in Puerto Rico !!!

So we went with a new group certifiyng for PADI from Blue Dolphin Scuba to Aguadilla. I was desperate to try  my new Cressi stuff. It was nice, nothing out of the world, but always nice.

These images where provided by Ruben Lind , one of the diver’s I meet in our trip to Culebra east of Puerto Rico. He was very kind to take some pictures on the boat of part of the group, and later some underwater images of this, your host diver, Flavio.

This image is from the top (2nd floor) of the boat. There were actually 40 divers, yes 40, from different groups on this trip. At the top of the image we can see some of the guys from Blue dolphin Scuba: Willie, Johny, Hector, , and me ( unique red strips ). The water looks so clear and light blue. This was on a rainny cloudy day, imagine what it is when the sun goes out ! Awesome to go scuba diving right ?

Here you can see my FIRST, yes, MY FIRST underwater photograph while diving. It feels so good by looking at it. Can’t wait to go back to Culebra for another dive.

Yes , me again, showing my hand !  Nothing new there. Should I get a housing for my digital camera? I think so.

Every trip must end, adn here we were going up again. Ruben just didn’t want to and stayed back for a last underwater photo.

After a couple of months of hearing about this incredible island east of Puerto Rico, yesterday I got the chance to finally have my first scuba diving experience in 2 of it’s reefs.

It was raining in San Juan de Puerto Rico, but you know tropical climates, it changes fast. We drove from San Juan to Fajardo, were the boat takes off to Culebra at 6am. It took around 50 minutes to get there.

We headed to the luxurious El Conquistador hotel ( more on El Conquistador Hotel in Fajardo ) as soon as we got there. We walked to the boating area ( a beautiful area with nice colored townhouses the hotel rents right in front of the water ). It was very early, so we had to wait as we waited for the rest of the other divers, around 20 other guys from blue Dolphin Scuba all anxious to get on the boat Culebra. The sea was pretty tough because of the weather, but it wasn’t that bad. One hour on the boat and we arrived to Culebra Island.

As we all know, Puerto Rico has a very mild climate during winter. This means that most divers will find the Island to be a perfect place for scuba diving all year long, during all seasons in the Northern Hemisphere.

San Juan, located on the northern part of the Island, get more Rain and Winds during the mild winter. During these days, divers tend to move to the Southern part of the island.

And, that’s exactly what we did yesterday. We went for some Scuba Diving in Guánica, again, escaping some bad weather on the North. A little bit further from San Juan, but Guanica is one of the best spots for scuba diving in Puerto Rico and has not one but many different options to enjoy for any type of diver.

It is great to be in the island, because only 2 hours away, after a phone call I knew we had an excellent climate and almost perfect underwater visibility.

After meeting with Johnny Gay and a great group from Blue Dolphin Scuba, we arrived to Guánica at around 11:00 am, and after grabbing a bite ( breakfast was not an option after a long sleep ) we headed to the water.

The sea was calm, there was only a small breeze, and visibility was awesome !

Two dives, each for over 55 minutes made my day. And we really enjoyed it !

After the dives we were starving. Nothing new and I guess the usual stuff when you spend a couple of hours out there under the water.
And of course, the food: When we reached the shore, and after packing our stuff, Johnny Gay ( the guy from Blue Dolphin Scuba, remember ?) took as to a local place on the way back to San Juan, for some unbelievable and original Fried Pork Ribs. Finally I got my new wet suit. It’s a Henderson Thermoprene full body wet suit. Feels awesome. Wasn’t thinking of getting it, but after trying a couple of different one son my last trip to NY, this one feels really different.

ThermoPrene is a special type of neoprene that stretches over 75% of it’s original size, making this full suit not only easy to put on, and to take out, but it fits very very well on your body and feels very good. It also looks very good as it adapts to the contour of your body very well and it does not feel tight.

Even though the neoprene feels thin compared to most others, it maintains the temperature perfectly well as any other good quality body suit.

We finished exausted. The whole trip was around 6 hours, and as the captian of the boat said, wind always blows between 10am an 11am.

Im so happy I had a camera in my iPhone: Our Dive Master, “Willie” was desperate for sweet water, and this is how he ended, lol.

Puerto Rico is a beautiful Island, and a real Paradise for Scuba Diving bringing both new and experienced divers from all around the world.

I head a voice, it’s saying … “go scuba diving” … so here I go
